UFC 115: Liddell vs Franklin Main Event Review

The UFC traveled to Vancouver, Canada for UFC 115. The main event featured a match-up between two UFC veterans, Chuck Liddell (21-7) and Rich Franklin (25-5). Chuck Liddell came into the fight lacking his infamous flabby physique. Instead, Liddell looked toned and ready to go. Unfortunately for him, it meant nothing, as Rich Franklin knocked him out in Round 1.

As the round opened, Franklin came out and hit Liddell with a leg kick, and then hit him with a left hand. After that, Liddell caught him with a shot, and Franklin attempted the first takedown of the fight. He was unable to get Liddell down, though. Liddell then went for a takedown of his own, which was successful. He came up bleeding, though, possibly from a headbutt.

As Round 1 continued, Liddell landed a vicious kick that Franklin blocked with his arm. It was later revealed that the kick actually broke Franklin’s arm. Liddell then landed a hard right hand that seemed to hurt Franklin. Liddell got Franklin against the cage and landed a hard elbow. Out of nowhere, Franklin landed a short right and Liddell crumbled. Franklin followed up with punches on the ground and the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

Both Liddell and Franklin gave it their all at UFC 115. Sadly, Liddell’s best was just not good enough. Continuing to fight with a broken arm is not something many people could do, and Franklin showed why no one can should him lightly.
