MMA Profile: Fedor Emelianenko

Fedor Emelianenko was born September 28, 1976 and is a Russian heavyweight MMA fighter. Currently he is World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts Heavyweight Champion and previously the winner of Pride Heavyweight Championship. He also won in Pride 2004 Grand Prix, World Combat Sambo championship and also medaled in the Russian National Judo Championship.

He was initially trained by Vasiliy Ivanovich Gavrilov and later by Vladimir Mihailovich Voronov. His perseverance and strong will power are his greatest strengths. He started learning Sambo and Judo techniques when he began fighting.

Fedor received “Master of Sports” title in Sambo and Judo in 1997 and also earned a bronze medal in Russian Judo Championship. His study to strike was under Coach Alexander Vasilievich Michkov. HE debuted in MMA for Japanese RINGS organization and was not allowed to make any head strikes. He started Sambo mixed martial arts in 2000 at 25 years of age as at that time he had no money.

To improve his strength and skills, Emelianenko trains him two or three times a day. Fedor is now trained with sport specific training in kickboxing, grappling and boxing. He covers 7-9 miles, twice a day and works out by pull ups, crunches and dips. HE travels to Kisovodsk for high altitude training once or twice a year. His recently published book has all these unique techniques.

Emelianenko has several people on his team, some of which include:, Muay Thai coach Ruslan Nagnibeda, Doctor Oleg Neustroev, grappling coach Voronov, boxing coach Michkiv and his training partners Roman Zentsov, and his brother Aleksander.

Fedor defended his World Championship title with opponent failing to show up in semis, by checking out the Bulgarian fighter in just 40 seconds of the start of the fight and finalist declining to fight gave him a default victory. In Nov 16, 2008 he finished third when he lost to 23 year old Blagoi Ivanov at Combat Sambo World Championships.

In February 21, 2009 he won gold at Tussian Combat Sambo Championship. He also just released a book called Fedor: The Fighting System of the World’s undisputed King of MMA which goes over his unique fighting styles.
